Only bruises from the boys night out. I like poking at it.
Being the eldest male in the family I need to practice the values and traditions of Tet, as well as the family customs. Basic tasks during Tet.
Fistly, tidy up unfinish businesses and clean the house before Tet. Because it is prohibited to clean the house in the first days of lunar new years. Legend has it. Once upon a time, a traveling merchant came upon a beautiful young woman and loved her right at first sight. Then, she became his wife. She loved him so much and devoted herself to him and her houseworks.
She seemed his good fortune. Since her appearance, he became lucky and more and more wealthy.
One day, she broke his favorite ancient vase by accident while cleaning it. The merchant became angry and hit her cruelly. To escape his wrath, she hid under a pile of trash.
So angry he is, the merchant ordered his men to throw away the pile of trash which reminded him of her carelessness.
His pitiful wife then disappeared. Her vanish brought away his good fortune. He became poor.
Since then, it's said not to sweep the trash away in the Tet days, lest you will throw your good luck away in the whole year. Secondly, happiness is what you give. Tet is a time to visit friends and relatives, giving them gifts to wish them healthier and wealthier in the coming year. And of course giving red packets to the little ones, advising them to study hard and be good to others.
Thirdly, visting a buddhist monastery. This is to pay respect for the ancestors and remember beloved ones' lost.
